Seller's comments about 1905' Riley 9

This 1905 Riley 9hp is believed to be an experimental design, produced for the test programme of Riley’s first four-wheeled chassis.
Currently, there are four known surviving examples of the Riley 9hp. Of the four cars, three are genuine period examples, while the fourth is a replica built over the last 30 years in New Zealand.
Example 1 is with Gaydon Motor Museum Reg. YU 4032 Engine No 1112 chassis No. C/ 105
Example 2 (this one) is with Bridge Classic Cars Reg. CW151 Engine No 860 chassis No. 1572
Example 3 is the RCAHT car Reg. 508 WAR Engine No. 1058 chassis No. unknown.
Example 4 is the NZ car Reg BC8512 Engine No 846 Chassis No 740.
This very early example of British automotive engineering is being presented for sale following a full restoration, completed over four years.
Initially found hidden on a farm, believed to be in order to keep it safe during the world wars, CW 151 was a wreck and nothing more than pieces of car parts and metal spread out over several metres. As the painstaking restoration began, there was almost no reference material to base the rebuilding of the vehicle. Following several trips to Gaydon Motor Museum and calling upon every piece of knowledge and experience of the restoration team, this unique vehicle is now ready to find a new home.
Geoff Haviland, of the Riley Cars Archive Heritage Trust, has visited the car in person and very strongly believes that this example is an experimental design that predates even the prototypes of the first four-wheeled Riley chassis and the first to have fully removable wheels.
Riley’s first 9hp model was offered to the public for the first time at the Motor Show in October 1906 and was announced as the 1907 Season model. The chassis details of CW 151 are all similar to the 1907 car except for some noticeable differences, including a longer front end, empty space in front of the foot pedals, the top of the door is higher than the seat arm, and the seat is a one-piece double unit instead of the production version of a double seat.
These differences, coupled with the story of the car, point to the very real possibility that this was one of, if not the very first mock-up of Riley’s first four-wheeled chassis.
The sale of this remarkable and fascinating 119-year old car truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
