1928 Rolls Royce 20hp Weyman Saloon.

Chassis number: GYL49

Registration Number: IJ8851

Probably the Best driving 20hp I have ever had the pleasure of taking down the road. GLY79 has been in the custody of a retired railway engineer for decades. During this time he has exhaustively gone though the car rebuilding each & evey component as required & the results are splendid to experience.

This Rolls Royce 20hp wears its original Addlestone produced Weymann body number 270 as distinct to those built by others using the Weymann Patents. It is famously light in construction making it well suited to the 20hp chassis & is utterly squeak & rattle free when conducted down poorer quality roads. The grey/ black fabric covering is of recent origin, in perfect condition & gives the car a delightfully period look.

To the interior is grey hide to all seats & door cards along with grey Wilton carpets. The dash & door caps are of beautifully polished burr Walnut giving a quality feel to the whole ensemble. A small additional row of switches has been added to the bottom of the dash along with discreet lights in each switch. Blue, for the front spot lamp. Red for the rear reversing lamp & green to engage overdrive along with a switch for the wipers. The overdrive engages seamlessly & allows for effortless 60MPH cruising over long distances such as the 300 odd miles to the annual rally most years. A volt meter has also been added in addition to the original ammeter.

The engine is silent in running & as sweet a 20hp engine as I have heard, starting instantly & ticking over in silence. A full flow moden oil filter has been fitted to the car as has a brass dip stick for the oil level in addition to the more factory fitted oil pointer arrow. Under the bonnet the car is very tidy with a lagre nickel Klaxon horn in adition to the Boa Constrictor type bulb horn to announce ones' presence. Wiring is correct & original in the correct colour coded cotton covered wires as when new.

To the side of the car is a small hatch behind which is located a battery cut off switch & also charging points to keep the battery in fine fettle when not in use. A large motoring trunk is fitted to the rear of the car containing two wine cases full of spares & touring requisites; Chateau Lynch Bages & Chateau Batailley, both regrettably lacking their original contents, but giving a clue to the owners impeccable palate.

The car sits on its original wire wheels with almost new tyres fitted all round & also to the side mounted spare. The original undertrays whilst not currently fitted come with the car. Under the running boards are a pair of useful storage boxes one of which we are infomred easily accomodates a double magnum of claret.

We handle many 20's each year & it is rare to sell one as good as this. It is in simply stunning conditon mechanically & cosmetically wanting for nothing & is a credit to its current owner whom approaching octogenarian years is now ready to part with it. Not the chepaest in the market, but certainly one of the best: "The quailty remains long after the price is forgotten" as Sir Henry Royce himself once remarked.
