A Rare Discovery and Potential "One of One" Survivor At Andrew Hardy Classics, we have a real passion for the unusual, and this 1924 Rover 14 is something truly special. Designed by the famous Owen Clegg, these cars were built to an incredibly high standard, often compared to Rolls-Royce in their day. We believe this could be the only roadworthy example left on the road, making it a "star" for any serious collector or museum. History & Provenance This car comes with a lovely, heart-warming history. It was a cherished member of a deceased estate where it had been the husband's favourite car for decades. Before that, it was part of the Heritage Museum in Warwickshire. The family used it for daughter’s weddings and local events, eventually storing it in a dry Tudor barn, raised on wooden blocks with a battery conditioner. It has been beautifully preserved rather than just left to sit, and it comes with a file of history, bills, and workshop diagrams. Bodywork & Exterior Condition While the car was restored and repainted from its original blue to this classic Cream some 50 years ago, it has aged perfectly. Solid Foundation: The bodywork is super solid with no rot or rust. It features a stunning polished aluminium bonnet that gives it a very distinguished look. Patina: It possesses what we call "true patina"—it’s honest, solid, and looks exactly like a vintage car should. There are minor chips in the paintwork from use, but nothing that detracts from its massive presence. Wheels: It sits on original cast iron wheels (not wooden spokes) which are in great structural condition. Mechanical Highlights Under the bonnet is a powerful 2. 1L/ 2. 2L four-cylinder engine mated to a desirable four-speed gearbox. Road Ready: This isn't just a showpiece; it’s a driving car. In fourth gear, it pulls strongly and "growls away" with plenty of power for modern-day vintage rallies. Recommissioned: Since coming out of long-term storage, we have flushed the fuel tank and cooling system, refurbished the magneto, and changed the points. Maintenance: It starts and runs beautifully. We have noted a small leak from the water pump (likely just needs a packing gland), which is a straightforward job for any enthusiast or engineering shop. Interior & Weather Gear The cabin is a time capsule of 1920s luxury: The Dashboard: A beautiful, unblemished wooden dashboard that shows no signs of age or discoloration. Upholstery: The seats and carpets are discoloured but in very good, usable condition with lovely varnished door caps. Weather Protection: The car comes with its original hood (in surprisingly good condition) and a full set of side screens stored in the back. Details: It still carries a period-correct brass Shell petrol can on the running board. Summary The Rover 14 is a rare beast and a quality alternative to the more common Morris Cowley or Austin 12. Whether you are looking for a unique wedding hire vehicle, a museum centrepiece, or a vintage tourer to enjoy on sunny weekends, this Rover is a rare opportunity to own a piece of motoring history that you won't see anywhere else.
