Seller's comments about 1962' Triumph TR4

Produced between 1961 and 1967, the TR4 combined a new, modern and aggressive body design by famed Italian stylist, Giovanni Michelotti mounted on the chassis of the previous TR3A. The TR4 also improved passenger comfort with wind-up windows, face-level ventilation and an optional hardtop. The 2138cc engine of the late-production TR3A continued while the 1991cc engine was also made available to buyers who wanted to participate in two litre racing. Today, these four-cylinder TR's are among the easiest of post-war classic sports cars to own and maintain being supported by a multitude of component suppliers and other specialists.
In January 1963, Motor Sport Magazine said, "Let us get the Triumph TR4 in correct perspective from the start. It is a sports car pure and simple, not a GT machine, and it is intended to instil fun into your motoring rather than provide effortless long-distance travel across Europe. Other motoring journalists said It was a proper "Hairy-chested" sports car with a muscular presence, especially when compared with a gentler MGB, an even meeker Sunbeam Alpine.
Production of the TR4 ended in January 1965 with the introduction of the TR4A and 40, 253 examples were built during its 5-year production run of which 2, 592 were RHD cars for the UK market and 37, 661 LHD for the Export Market - the vast majority of cars going to the USA where Triumph sports cars were highly coveted.
According to the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust production certificate, this Triumph TR4 was built in Coventry on 9th March 1962 and was sold by Triumph dealer Ernest W Hatfield Ltd in Sheffield to a Mr Alf Williams in Rotherham and was first registered on 4th May 1962 with the number plate 273 CWE. Mr Williams kept the car for 17 years before selling it to the next owner in Ashford in Kent in 1979 and he kept the car for 19 years before selling it in 1998. The current number plate DSL 929 was put on the car in August 1999 when the 3rd owner decided to keep the original plate!
The car has now had 8 owners from new, with the previous owner having purchased the car in March 2018 from TRGB in Huntingdon. The car has had a fortune spent on it over the years and there are invoices for works and restoration in the file dating back to the second owner and over £12, 500 by the previous owner. In March 2018 it had a reconditioned Gearbox and Overdrive fitted by TRGB and in November 2018 it had a fully rebuilt 'unleaded' Engine plus ancillary works carried out by Crown Classic Cars in Twickenham totalling £9, 540 with the mileage at 96, 253 miles and it has only covered a further 1, 763 miles on the rebuilt engine and a believed genuine 98, 160 miles from new!
We sold the car to the current car collector in May 2022, but due to a change in personal circumstances, we have been given the car to resell for him.
Finished in Royal Blue with a Red Vinyl interior, White Dashboard, Mota-Lita Leather Steering Wheel, all original fittings and switches, Surrey Hard Top with both hard and soft top removable panels, rebuilt 2138cc Engine, Kenlowe Electric Cooling Fan, a reconditioned 4 Speed Gearbox with Overdrive on 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears, excellent chrome-work, restored bodywork and sitting on 15" stove enamelled Wire Wheels with Vredstein 185/ 70/ 15 Tyres.
