Seller's comments about 1972' Triumph TR6

At The Forge, we’re delighted to present this wonderfully honest and mechanically sorted Triumph TR6 – a genuine 150BHP CP chassis car supplied new to the UK home market. Finished in its correct factory shade of Pimento Red with its original petrol injection engine still in place, this is a sharp older restoration with just the right amount of patina and presence.Built on the 31st of August 1972 and first registered in Manchester, VVM 955L was specified from new with overdrive, static seatbelts, a heater and the sought-after CP-series 2. 5 injection engine. Over the years it has been maintained with impressive consistency, avoiding the fate of many classics that end up off the road or in need of total restoration. This TR6 has remained on the button, road-going and in good mechanical order throughout its life, benefitting from thoughtful and timely expenditure from a succession of careful owners.Recent improvements since 2022 total over £3, 000 and include the addition of electronic ignition, a new alternator, coil, injectors, front brake discs and pads, new wheel cylinders, slave cylinder, brake shoes, steering rack mounting rubbers, column bushes, and a new headlamp switch. These upgrades have been carried out with usability and reliability in mind, making this a TR6 that feels as good on the road as it looks on the eye.The car’s history file is one of the most comprehensive we’ve seen, documenting former owners, MOT certificates dating back to 1986, a wealth of old tax discs, and a substantial number of invoices from respected specialists. Its early life is well charted, with maintenance records going back to 1979 and restoration work in the early 1980s by Light Oaks Garage in Salford. By 1989 the car had been treated to a professional re-trim by Eccles Car Hood and Cushion Co, alongside a repaint using materials supplied by Auto Paint in Manchester. In the early 1990s, TR Bitz supplied an array of mechanical parts as the car underwent recommissioning.By the late 1990s the car was in the hands of a Lancashire-based enthusiast who continued to invest in its upkeep. Works at this stage included a new hood, seatbelts, and mechanical attention from a local garage including a new clutch and master cylinder. Into the 2000s, the car continued to be actively used, and in 2012 it underwent further significant work including new outer sills and associated body repairs, once again with TR Bitz supplying the necessary parts. In 2016, S&M Triumph Restoration Ltd reconditioned the overdrive unit and completed gearbox-related work, and more recently, a further £3, 000 has been invested in mechanical upkeep.Today, the car presents beautifully as a mature, honest example that has never needed full restoration. The paintwork, while not fresh, is extremely presentable and suits the character of the car perfectly. The body panels are strong and straight, the new bumpers add a touch of crispness, and the interior is clean, smart and welcoming, with freshly trimmed seats and a period-correct feel throughout.Having covered just over 99, 000 miles from new, this TR6 feels confident, lively and ready for the next chapter. It starts effortlessly from cold – a rare quality among fuel-injected TR6s – and delivers strong performance with excellent oil pressure, smooth overdrive engagement and slick gear changes. On the road, it feels robust, responsive and spirited, the way a well-set-up TR6 should. This is a car for driving, for enjoying, and for those who value authenticity. It has never been over-restored, never pushed beyond its original character, and has been kept in genuinely usable condition by owners who understood what to preserve and when to invest.VVM 955L will be independently inspected prior to sale, professionally detailed to our usual high standard and supplied with a complete history file and fresh MOT.As ever, we welcome viewings by appointment at our showroom in Shropshire.MOT Certificates :2025 : 99, 597 miles (29 June 2026)2023 : 98, 583 miles2022 : 97, 903 miles2021 : 97, 639 miles2017 : 96, 848 miles2016 : 96, 480 miles2015 : 96, 122 miles2014 : 95, 576 miles2013 : 95, 144 miles2012 : 94, 997 miles2011 : 94, 955 miles2010 : 94, 891 miles2009 : 94, 863 miles2008 : 94, 850 miles2007 : 94, 801 miles2006 : 94, 629 milesViewing :Viewing is strictly by appointment only. All inspections welcomed on site.
