Seller's comments about 1964' Volkswagen Karmann Ghia
Karmann Ghia 1600 semi-automatic for sale, restored and complete - unfortunately practically unused for 6 years. Color silver pearl; you can't see it well in the photos, but in reality in the sunlight it simply dazzles with pearly glints. The car was renovated over 25 years ago in Wrocław; the course of the resurrection process can be seen in photos grouped in 4 (scans of analog photos). The current condition is not much different from what was achieved immediately after the renovation. The basic elements of the car were bought for German marks in a condition close to scrap. All the equipment was in boxes, loose or missing at all. Please remember that 25 years ago there were no clubs, websites, classic car specialists and the registration of vintage vehicles did not exist. Despite this, we managed to make decent bodywork using original German repair equipment, find and buy some missing details, paint it, make nice upholstery, etc. Of course, it would be done differently today, but in my opinion the job was so solid that there was no point in repeating it anew. Due to the technical condition of some of the original elements and the "impossibility" related to the regulations in force at that time, it was necessary to use chassis parts from another VW, i.e. TL1600 from the 1960s, seats from a Suzuki Swift from scrap metal (but they are comfortable and with headrests), and many things can simply be added/finished. As you can see, the shack itself dates back to the 1970s. Many details, such as the strips, could not be completed, so the mounting holes were welded smoothly. The upholstery is made entirely of one material, plus doors with sewn-in eco-leather pockets, just like the original. As I have already mentioned, the level of refinement of the car is significantly lower than the originals made today, but there is no rust or mechanical defects. The paint adheres almost perfectly; apart from the hood, where you can see insufficient surface preparation and a few literally spots, such as a scratch or a micro-dent from a stone - I have been driving the car for 20 years... The double intake engine was overhauled in Germany before being transported to Poland and here it was no longer separated from the gearbox; the drive unit never had any problems, it never drank oil or dripped anything, so there was no point in messing with it. Now you will probably need to replace some seals, but there are no loosenesses or other defects. Within the drive system, only the starter and carburetor were unscrewed and regenerated, and I replaced some accessories (pipes, cables, ignition device) and, of course, regularly, oil, plugs and ATF. The steering and braking systems were rebuilt, so there is nothing to worry about - of course, everything needs to be checked due to the long break in operation. Generally, everything works except the clock on the dashboard and the rear window heating. Even the radio was left original, although for better sound I connected it to an Alpine amplifier and the speakers in the rear side panels were painted to match the color of the upholstery. It plays very nicely and quite loudly when needed. The loudspeaker on the dashboard and the strip of leather visible in the photo are, of course, a dummy and additionally masking a crack in the original element of the dashboard - it was not possible to find a replacement, although now they are probably available. It is simply a healthy car, although of course it is available for collection on a tow truck - there has been no inspection since 2000. After a mechanical inspection, carburetor service, replacement of fluids, tires that are definitely too old and cleaning, as well as renewal of the stamp in the ID card, you can immediately and without I'm not ashamed to go to a rally or anywhere else. When I was driving it, I went to VW rallies all over Poland without any problems, as well as trips to the mountains or to the seaside when I was taken for a drive. I'm sure that the new owner won't be disappointed with it, and so that he doesn't get bored, I leave him a few things to do, e.g. paint the engine compartment, trunk or the interior of the cabin under the dash - nowadays it would definitely be done during renovation, but in the past it was just like that it was getting varnished on the outside, and the inside will be sorted out later ;-) Price: Due to the non-originality of many elements and the replacement nameplate (but with the unique Karmann Ghia inscription), the price is PLN 66,000. I am not interested in exchanging it at all.
