Volvo 122S Car was built to do the Monte Carlo Challenge in 1994 which it finished 30th O/ A (from 140+ starters) "after having to miss the last regularity Col des Banquettes because we didn’t have enough fuel to complete the route. It has never failed to finish an event and the only “failure to proceed” was when the Lumenition packed up in France a few years ago." Spec as follows:Engine: B18 B block & crank with B18 D head & cam, twin HS6 SU carbs, new fuel pump. Bottom end very strong, oil pressure light goes out while cranking.Gearbox: Standard with the Laycock overdrive and remote gear-shift.Rear Axle: Rebuilt by Rob Henchoz of Amazon Cars around 5 years ago with little work since.Suspension: GAZ adjustable gas-filled shocks all round, front wishbones strengthened, rear suspension bushes all renewed when the axle was done, I'm pretty sure with Polybushes. Front springs are shortened 140, rears are Amazon Cars spec heavy duty lowered by around 1”. Brakes: Front: 3-pot Girling calipers overhauled by TRW at the same time as the rear axle was done by Rob Henchoz, Mintex M48 (Fast road) pads. Rear: Cylinders overhauled and fitted with Mintex fast road rivetted linings.Wheels: 5 off Minilite-type alloys with good 175x75 x 15” Hankook tyres.Towbar retained to give protection to the standard fuel tank which is slung under the boot floor.Lighting: LED running lights behind the rad grille, Halogen headlights, BOSCH Rallye Magnum driving lights, BOSCH truck fog light fitted to rear bumper as reversing light. Stainless steel bumpers front & rear. Interior: Full Safety Devices roll cage with some padding, 14” leather rim steering wheel, Volvo 132 Rev counter currently set up for transistorised ignition which was removed for reliability, Brantz tripmeter, Avanti maplight plus halogen interior light fixed to the rollcage above navigator, stereo radio/ cassette with input socket for auxiliary source mounted on the parcel tray, front Recaro seats from an early Fiesta 1600i (very, very rare I am told) superbly comfortable for touring, new full harness belts.I purchased this last year but other commitments are forcing my hand to sell on to someone with time and space for it.I have had some work completed on it including a full service and MOT. The rear brake cylinders and pipe work back to the main lines replaced and a couple of tender spots on the chassis cut and rewelded. It does need tidying and the bodywork will need a bit of TLC in the future.
