Seller's comments about 1958' Fiat 500

The Fiat 500 (Cinquecento) was a model produced by Fiat in Italy between 1957 and 1975. Designed by Dante Giacosa, it bears the acronym ZFA 110 and ZFA 120 for Giardiniera. Launched as the Nuova 500 (new) in July 1957, succeeding the 500 "Topolino", it was a small, economical and practical car. Measuring 2. 97 metres in length and originally powered by a rear-mounted, air-cooled 479cc twin-cylinder engine, the 500 was 24. 5 centimetres shorter than the Fiat 600, launched two years earlier, and is considered one of the first city cars designed specifically for this purpose.
In 1959 Dante Giacosa was awarded the Compasso d'Oro for the industrial design of the Fiat 500, the first time a Compasso d'Oro had been awarded to a car manufacturer. History In 1936 Fiat launched the popular front-engined Fiat 500 "Topolino". In 1949, in response to strong demand in the post-war market, production resumed under the name 500C, with redesigned front and rear bodywork. Initially available only as a two-door coupé with a sunroof, the range was extended with the launch of the estate, offering a more generous rear space, much appreciated by families. These two models lasted until 1957, when they were replaced by a completely new, lighter car. The new car had a rear-mounted engine, like the Beetle and its big sister, the Fiat 600 of 1955. Despite its compact size, the 500 proved to be an extremely practical vehicle, with strong sales throughout Europe. As well as the two-door saloon, it was also available in a "Giardiniera" version; this variant was equipped with the standard side-mounted engine, a wheelbase lengthened by 10 cm to provide a more comfortable rear seat, a full-length fabric sunroof and more powerful brakes, borrowed from the Fiat 600. Production of the 500 ended in 1975. The Nuova 500 was equipped with a 479 cm³ in-line twin-cylinder engine (nominal displacement 500 cm³), hence the name, developing 13 bhp. This model also had a folding canvas roof at the rear, like that of the Fiat 500 Topolino. The Nuova 500 is one of three models with suicide doors. Our 500 was registered new in Portugal in 1958. Its current owner bought it about eight years ago with the intention of restoring it to its original appearance and features. The restoration was completed in 2023, having been driven only as long as necessary to maintain its mechanical condition, and the entire repair process has been duly recorded and will be provided to the purchaser.
