Produced by Ford UK between 1938 and 1961 as a higher-end model than the Popular and Anglia (with a size of four meters to do justice to its purpose), the Prefect had an interruption in its manufacturing period due to the Second World War, between 1941 and 1945. the first to be designed by Ford outside of Detroit (especially for the British market).
Its production began in October 1938, at the Ford factory in Dagenham, Essex, and was later extended to Australia (which in 1939 would receive the specific designation E03A), New Zealand, Argentina, Canada, Latvia, Ireland, South Africa and Singapore
