Seller's comments about 1941' Ford Super Deluxe

1941 Ford Super Deluxe Touted as an affordable car for the masses, with every part starting from raw steel to the rubber tires, produced within the confines of the massive Ford plant, the Super Deluxe offered a smooth ride, touted a large interior, and hydraulic brakes, all at a very affordable price. Some of this may have been true, and some not, but it sold cars, and that was the bottom line in 1941. For consignment a 1941 Super Deluxe 4 door sedan which has been in the current consignors hands for 45 years. Bought from a local farmer, it had its trunk floor repaired, and a respray in the 80s. The 302ci engine has been rebuilt, and since the consigner is also an upholsterer, he did the interior which is beautifully appointed. A nicely designed version right out of 1941! Exterior Draped in blue, this steel slabbed Ford produced Super Deluxe has most of all its original trimmings and is looking simply fab. In Super Deluxe style, the barrel shaped vertical ribbed V Grille with its two flanking side panels looks shiny and unmarred. Rounded lines with bulbous fenders now with just a very small running board, we are moving into the modern era of the next car look as to overall design. A hinged on the back hood with some curved edges, a bulbous badged front section, and a rounded trunk frame with an oval rear window above as well as a central passenger compartment which utilizes square doors which sport belt line trim spears. Also noted are some snazzy thin fender trimmings that wrap around the back and front quarters. A flared rocker is seen at the bottom. On all 4 corners are the standard 14-inch black painted steel wheels sporting moon caps in the center with no badging. Thin white walls for all corners are the standard fare for this Deluxe which is just Super! Interior Taking some liberties to showcase some of the consignors upholstery talents, the brown metal dash has been de-artdeco-ized, now with a padded upholstered tan leather background for a horizontally aligned instrument cluster with new gauges. Knobs and pulls have been put in and are billet style metal knobs which are all lined up at the bottom of the custom dash. The padding in the center continues over to the passenger side where a padded surround for a rectangular clock with the metal glove box door just below. Chairs are now covered in nice brown/tan tweed and there are seat belts installed. Door panels match in the tweed and have chromed handle accenting and a brown leather covered armrest in the centers. A late model steering wheel fronts this dash and supple very clean like new brown carpeting floods the floors. In the center a Lokar shifter reaches for the drivers hand. In back is another tightly upholstered tweed bench with some smaller arms at each side that have wood toppers. An excellent condition felt headliner is above and has no wrinkles or sags. A superior custom job inside. Drivetrain Flipping the hinged hood, we see in the restored engine bay, a 302ci V8...not original to this car. But it has been completely rebuilt and looks all the part with its ribbed valve coverings, chromed open air cleaner covering which hides a 2-barrel carburetor on top. A C4 3-speed automatic and a Ford 8-inch posi track rear axle now finalize the drivetrain. This setup is now a 12-volt conversion electrical system. Undercarriage An X frame with no rust firmly supports like new floor pans and shiny exhaust in dual form. Body hangers are rust free and it is definitely an all solid undercarriage environment. Transverse leaf springs for the front suspension, and leaf springs for the back along with disc brakes now in front and drums still in the back. Drive-Ability She started right up, and on the test track had solid acceleration and bias free braking. Steering was smooth but did have some slight binding and shifting wasnt fluid. Note the A/C is installed but not charged, the speedometer is inoperable, and the oil pressure reads low when at idle (could be the gauge). All other functions were working as they should. In keeping most of its original charm, we see an overall very good condition automobile, with that fab grille! Much of the original trimmings and steel panels have been retained and the paint is excellent and still shiny after all those years. Well maintained by a loving consigner for the past 45 years, but sadly it is time to do other bucket list things in retirement, so advantage YOU!
