Seller's comments about 1961' Rover P4

Award Winning 1961 Rover P4 100
Straight six cylinder 2. 6 engine
Four speed gearbox with working overdrive in 3rd and 4th Gears

Mileage showing: 70050, but as with any car of this age, this cannot be taken as gospel and is up the buyer to decide for themselves.

Purchased by me, from a reputable classic car dealer, at the Birmingham NEC car show in November 2018.

Various car club membership, including being a P4 Guild member. Stunning colour of Royal Blue with pale green interior. Totally original carpets and interior much as it was 61 years ago, with the expected patina and smell of a car of this vintage, although there is a very tiny tear on the front bench seat, approx 15mm.

Much mechanical work has been carried out since acquiring the car, including:

New Battery
4 new Avon cross-ply tyres, including balancing.
New front discs, callipers and pads
New wheel cylinders to rear drums, complete with new shoes and springs
Almost all copper brake pipes replaced

New rubber mounts and spring to centre bearing carrier
Cylinder head skimmed, complete with new valves seats and guides by engineering company.
Brand new exhaust valves and cam followers
New rings to pistons
John Wearing supplied upgraded front anti-roll bar, complete with new drop links and all new bushes.
New trackrod ends
New Rear Crank Seal
New Gearbox rear output shaft seal

Electric fan fitted
Hazard warning lights fitted
Brand new headlights, buckets and chrome
New Lucas spotlamps
Electric windscreen wash
New clutch kit, including release bearing fitted less than 100 miles ago

Upgraded coil, with ballast resistor
New rubber door seal to drivers door
New plugs, oil filter, oil and diff oil change.
Badge bar fitted and will include an original 1961 AA Badge

There’s probably more I’ve missed, but mechanically, this Rover is now probably just as good as it was when it left the factory, although there is the obligatory slight gearbox leak, which is all too common on these cars and I am no gearbox guru, so left as is.

No power steering and car drives like one would expect of a car of this vintage, a real drivers car.

Has original radio fitted, which still works once the valves have warmed up!

As most of the P4 models of this era, the clock does not work. Never bothered me, as once you isolate the cars battery, it would stop anyway and need to be adjusted.

In my ownership, the car has always been MOT’d, except for last year during Covid, regardless of the government saying it is exempt. I do this so that I know that it is road legal, safe and probably in better condition than some newer cars on the road.

I am no bodywork expert and just wash and polish it, take it to various shows and events (or did, before all the lockdowns). Overall, it looks great for a 61 year old car.

The carpets, which I was told, but can’t be certain, are the original ones and add to the cars character, as although a little dirty, they contain many years of history with them, which are part of the cars charm.

Many, many thousands of pounds have been spent by me on the mechanical side of things and in its very first outing to a show with me, picked up the prize for ‘Vintage & Classic Winner 2019’, so it can’t be that bad. The glass trophy will also come with the car, as it is now part of the cars history.

Also included will be a folder containing many, many invoices for works carried out by myself and previous owners, dating back to the 1980’ and absolutely loads of spare parts that I have gained during my ownership.

Sale also includes a Workshop Manual, Spare Parts Catalogue, drivers handbook, original under glovebox tool tray with tools and a its very own ‘used’ outdoor car cover, should you not have a garage.

My time as custodian of this vehicle must now sadly come to an end and it is time for a new custodian to take over and add to the cars history and upkeep.

Car located in Whitstable, Kent.

Now that Covid rules are being lifted and car shows being allowed to happen again, why not treat yourself to some 1960’s luxury and enjoy a new life with like minded people at these events!

If you have read this far down the description, it is clear you know what you are looking at and bearing in mind that with all of those works done, it can be yours for just a firm £5750. 00.

Thank you for taking the time to look.
