Seller's comments about 1973' Volkswagen Transporter

A car from 1973, manufactured in Germany for the American market. It was registered in California (American papers show that it was first registered in 1974 and deregistered in 2016), we are the first owners in Poland (since 2018). The car has an original American Safare Camper camper structure (including the roof). Original two-color Wild Westerner (Apple Green and Ravenna Green), the third color is an American blue vinyl tape. We have a service book with entries from the 1970s. The VIN in the car is in the places where it should be - the car is original. We have an expert's opinion from May 2018, which allowed the car to be registered as a monument. This opinion shows that the originality and completeness of: structural assemblies and engine accessories was above 95%, suspensions and drive system - also above 95%, and interior design and furnishings - above 85%. We increased the last value. In 2019, the car underwent an inspection introducing it to traffic in Poland (this was before the bodywork and painting works, which also proves that the bodywork and chassis were in good condition before our renovation). The diagnostician stated that there are 5 seats in the car; nevertheless, there were and are four original VW seat belts (two at the front, two at the rear). The car is registered as a special camping car. We have not registered it as a monument - it is possible to export it (including returning it to the USA). When renovating the car, we followed the principle of leaving what was functional and not falling apart in the original. In a few situations we replaced elements with original VW ones from that era, but most often we used new available elements dedicated to VW T2, usually Belgian, Dutch or Danish. The car dates back to the period when a 1679 cm3 petrol boxer engine was installed in it. Therefore, it is much livelier than those of earlier models. The car started in 2018, but some components of the original engine had to be replaced (we found them in the UK), the sheets covering the engine were sandblasted and painted in 2019, and in 2025 the engine was sealed. The manual gearbox was and is functional, a mechanism was added in 2025 to make it easier to find a gear while driving. In 2024 and 2025, we changed the vast majority of the braking system, suspension system and muffler. In 2018, the car was covered with surface rust, but - unlike in most of these models - there were "knee-high sheet metal". The chassis was cleaned (there were no holes in it, apart from those made for attaching various camper items) and secured. This was also done with the floor in the interior. During the renovation, no repair manual dedicated to the VW T2 was included. The sheet metal was de-rusted several times, the paint was stripped to bare metal and at six-month intervals the car was painted with two layers of different primers and two/three layers of varnish from the number. These works lasted from 2019 to 2022. In 2022, the car received new door and window seals. All side windows are original, rear window - from the USA, front - new Sekurit (like the side windows, but they are original). Bumpers renovated in 2022, new rubbers on them. Rims sandblasted and powder coated in 2023. Original VW chrome hubcaps on rims, secured. Added chrome rims. All tires are new (from 2023). There is also a hook in the car (also entered in the ID). Of the chrome elements, we had to replace the door handles (except the tailgate) and mirrors. We used the original seats in the cab from a VW T2b, the steel structures were renovated and replaced with new horsehair mats. We did not decide on the original leatherette (if someone likes it, there is no big problem, because it is available as covers for about PLN 3,000), but on natural leather in the colors of the interior of the car. The interior sofas are upholstered in the same way (also made of white and black natural leather). We added Volkswagen headrests to the seats (for safety). The sides, apart from those from the rear hatch, are original (those with perforation), in the remaining ones we changed the outer covering, the one from the rear hatch is new, with appropriate gluing. As the car is in the Deluxe version, we have air vents and armrests in the front door panels. The body was renovated in 2023. Most of the elements were preserved - replacement was necessary in the case of tabletops and seat covers, sofas and beds. The camper's electrical installation, refrigerator and water tank are new (for those who love super originals - we have old elements). Original cabinets, original gas stove, under the car there is a gas cylinder (original) serving both the kitchen and gas heating (there is a stove from the USA). There is a converter in the car of American owners for the entire 110/230V installation (they drove not only in the USA). There are cables with American terminals to connect the car to electricity (and an adapter). There is an original step. We left a lot of artifacts in the car that were previously in it and related to its American owners (from California and Latin American countries). We also managed to match/order details to match the car's color (e.g. shower, mattress, travel chairs). Originally, we were going to convert it into 4 sleeping places, but - due to the exceptional condition of the car - we decided to stay with the original. Due to the fact that we travel in a camper with 4 people, the car is used occasionally (of course, not in winter) in Warsaw. An interesting, very rare car with such a structure. There are some nice ones in the VW T2, but in the original camper structure - less so (in the case of the Westfalia). However, our bus is much more unusual in Europe. 2 years ago we saw one similar for sale in Europe (it was before renovation and the asking price was EUR 28.5 thousand). Even AI claims that "the Wild Westerner version is a rare, limited camping edition (characterized by, among others, specific painting and interior details)". We are selling because we need funds for another project, this time for the VW T2a.
