The first owner was Bob Gibson Jarvis, MD of UDT Laystall which company then acted as race sponsor for AC. During Bob’s ownership the car remained at the factory until 1957, save for an appearance on the AC stand at the Earls Court Motor Show of that year.
In 1963 YPK 60 came into the hands of David Merrington who took the car to Brands Hatch and RAF Gravely for sprints as well as the Ragley Hall hill climb.
The subsequent owner was Bruce MacIntosh who became the Chief Race Engineer for the Brabham Alfa Romeo team. Bruce took the Aceca to Italy in 1966 whilst he was employed by Fantuzzi the coach builder. The engine developed one or two problems that could not be rectified at short notice due to the difficulty of obtaining engine parts. Bruce told his employer that he would have to return home whereupon, he was offered a new Lancia B20 2. 5 V6 engine. Bruce fitted the engine in two weekends whilst fitting the Bristol gearbox to the Bristol Lancia engine, together with a dual exhaust system running under each door.
In 1977 the car was bought by John Parker a well-known AC expert who rebuilt the car from bare tubes, discarding the Lancia engine and fitting Bristol engine no. 100B2-4128, rebuilt to 105 bhp. John kept the car until 1986, following which there were 5 owners until 2001.
Martin Shaw, by profession, a chartered engineer, acquired the car in July 2001. The car was sent to Ian Nuthall racing in 2006 for rebuild to D2 specification fitted with Bristol Sports cam.
In 2020 YPK was acquired from the Estate of Martin Shaw by the current owner, Clive Robertson who embarked on a recommissioning program as the car had been little used for the last six years of its time with Martin. Work included the rebuilding of the diff as well as the fitting of a new clutch, rebuilt water pump and dynamo, rebuilt suspension with new bronze bushes and shockers, and all new hoses.
YPK 60 has sprinted at Goodwood with the AC club, taking 2 cups. In 21 and 22 YPK competed at the Mille Miglia under numbers 308 and 391. Together with a FIVA Identity Card no. 088410, YPK also holds a Registro 1000 Miglia Eligibility Certificate no. 1536-E-55-21, which Certificate remains valid until 30th June 2027. The car carries identification no. 1536-E.
Our thoughts
Registered 15th December 1955 what we offer for sale is an vitally important part of AC history. The first Aceca to have a that glorious 2. 0 Bristol engine fitted.
Still in the original factory colour combination of Silver with Burgundy leather, the interior is the original. I get it could tell some stories…… Closing your eyes you can , hear the voices on the Motor show stand, along with the raised Italian voices in 1966 of when the original engine failed. One thing with people in motorsport there is always a way.
11 years later YPK60 was once again beating with a Bristol heart, which was rebuilt in 2006 by IN Racing to D2 specification and with sports cam shaft.
Like many cars we offer for sale YPK60, has an unrivalled narrative. The car isn't in concourse condition, there are small areas of under-bonnet detailing improvement which could be undertaken in our workshops prior to delivery or during the winter months. The paintwork has had a ceramic coating so easy to clean down after events, there are paint blemishes commensurate with the age of the past restoration.
