Seller's comments about 1967' Triumph TR4

1967 TR4A

Heritage certificate.
Selling on behalf of the owner, who lives in Scotland.

The car was purchased new in Coventry back in May 1965 by David Rawdon, who then exported it to South Africa the following month, June 1965. Mr Rawdon owned a number of Hotels in South Africa and the car was purchased to add to his collection at Matjiesfontein Museum. (Quite an interesting read in itself). After the death of Mr Rawdon in 2010, the car was bought by Dave & Debbie Van Der Westhuizen in 2012, who then set about to restore the car to its former glory. This turned out to be a two-and-a-half-year project, ensuring that every aspect was addressed. Thereafter, Dave & Deborah Van Der Westhuizen attended several events, one being to Simola Hill Climb Event in 2016 and again in 2018, driving to Bloemfontein to attend the Triumph National Gathering, where the car scored a Gold Medal in the D’Elegance section. (Certificates retained)

Mr Van Der Westhuizen carried out every aspect of the restoration himself, with the exception of the paintwork. The body tub and the chassis were sandblasted separately, before being painted. The car body colour was originally New White (code 19) however Dave & Deborah took the opportunity to change it to Jasmine (code 34). The entire body tub is now Jasmine, inner wheel arches, behind dash board/ bulkhead etc. Totally professional job.
The engine was also overhauled, as well as propshaft and half shafts being upgraded. He also carried out the recognised conversion, by fitting telescopic shock absorbers, as opposed to the original lever arm type.

The quality of the re-trim is to a very high standard, dare I say, better than original. The stitching is first class and the seats and dash are excellent. The wooden dash is a rich Walnut, complemented by the Motolita steering wheel.

Through a relation in South Africa, my wife and I were given the opportunity in 2020 to purchase the car and bring it back to the UK, which we did this year. Having sold our TR6 five years ago, we both missed having a convertible car, amongst our small collection.
Unfortunately, our business has not been immune to the affects of Covid and we have suffered the loss of some business, hence the reason to sell the TR and one other. We were fortunate enough however to attend the annual Triumph & MG gathering at Malvern in July this year and fortunately the weather was kind to us.

The car received NOVA clearance in June this year and is now officially re-registered with DVLA. All accompanying paperwork is to hand. I also have heritage certificate verifying engine and chassis numbers match.
Although not a requirement, I had the car MOT’d in August for peace of mind. It received a Pass, with no advisories.
