Commentaires du vendeur sur 1937' Armstrong-Siddeley Town And Country
1937 Armstong Siddley Town and Country
We understand from the Armstrong Siddley owners club that this to be the only road going version of this model on the UK roads, so from a unique and rare point of view this is very rare.
The original advert classed this as "a roomy 5 seater with built in luggage platform to take a full sized cabin trunk. If a chauffer is employed, the front seats can be separated from the rear compartment by a neat glass partition which is normally concealed behind the front seat by a folding table."
The car is a 17HP and when new cost £495.00.
We have been using this a Wedding Car, so it is used regularly.
Last year we had a full new Leather interior handmade and fitted at a cost of £4,800.00. This also included carpets and a new headliner. We also had all of the woodwork either repaired or replaced at a further cost of £2,500.00. The car also benefits from a new bespoke fuel tank in Aluminium which has been made to the same pattern as the original at a cost of £450.00. The original was so full of rust it was not useable. Sunroof has also been refurbished and repaired so is now fully operable, a bit stiff, but opens and closes as it should.
There a couple of things that need pointing out. 1. The paintwork is very poor. It looks great in the photo's but it doesn't look like this on the car. Although it is useable and indeed we have used for weddings in this condition, I would recommend an external resprayer. 2. The exhaust will need replacing. It is blowing from the joint at the manifold and has holes in some of the pipework. 3. The hinges on the glass partition have corroded and snapped, so, although we have this it is not fitted in the car. I can source another one from someone selling spares for this vehicle if you so wish, or I can let you have his details so that you can purchase this yourself at a cost of £150.00
All that said, this is very solid car underneath. It was originally restored in 1990, but was then left in a warehouse with a leaking roof and did cause some damage which has now been repaired. The car runs very well and the preselect gearbox and working semaphores make this a fun car to drive. It is certainly a head turner.
The car obviously benefits from being both Tax and MOT exempt.
I have tried to be as honest as possible here and I am looking to re-coup the money I have spent. A car as rare as this one will, I am confident, be quite valuable with a new re-spray and will finish this car off to be an amazing car.
Although she runs well, I would recommend collection with a trailer as you would not want to drive her long distances as she only averages 30-40mph.
We are selling as we are no longer running a Wedding Car Hire company and I need the space for my new project of an MG Midget that I have been given as a Christmas present.
