First registered on the 8th of August 1970, this Mercedes-Benz 280 SL is a UK-delivered RHD example.
With only four recorded keepers throughout its life, this Pagoda's story with invoiced proof starts a little later in June of 1984 with Mr Dorstan. The invoice states that the car was recorded with 98, 201 miles and was with E. R Harte (Motor Engineering) for a full engine rebuild and a fully reconditioned automatic gearbox.
Next up within the car's lifetime of owners was a Mr Bellhouse, with a purchase invoice present from the 22nd of June 1995. Mr Bellhouse appears to have owned the car until some point in 2011, carrying out general maintenance work throughout his ownership.
Invoices then change names to a Mr Lavers, who appears to have had the car up until the 4th of December 2012. Under his ownership, he again carried out general maintenance work and a full interior re-trim at a cost of over £5000.
In December of 2012 we have a purchase invoice that marks the start of Mr Doggart's ownership. In the Autumn of 2013, the car was dropped into John Haynes Mercedes for its annual service, and for an in-depth inspection as to exactly what would be needed in terms of restoration work to bring this car up to a fantastic level. In all, over £32, 000 was spent in what resulted from this inspection which included, but was not limited to (please see the cars documents section for a detailed breakdown):
o Replacement of sill panels & three floor panels
o Attend to rust & corrosion alongside the chassis rails, as well as the boot floor panel
o Remove the rear axle and replace, seals, gaiters, mountings, and re-paint
o Refurbish ignition system
o Refurbish power-assisted steering system
o Refurbish automatic gearbox
o Major engine service
o Refurbish alternator
At the end of the works it appeared that Mr Doggart enjoyed the car for a few months from spring to summer of 2015, before then selling it to Hoffmans of Henley. The car then spent about a year at Hoffmans, before eventually being sold on to its current owner that it has today.
The current owner has owned the car since March 2016. Under his ownership, the car has travelled less than 1600 miles. It's been through an MOT every year with no advisories present, and in the past 12 months had the following in terms of maintenance:
o Major service including Engine oil, Spark Plugs, Fuel Filter & Air Filter
o Checked and adjusted levels of other fluids as required
o Replacement of 6x Bosch Fuel Injectors
Before the car arrived with us for sale it was subjected to a 3-stage paint correction and now presents incredibly well. The car runs and drives superbly and we would urge anyone who has an interest to make an appointment to experience it for themselves.
